Why do We have Dogs?

From ancient times to the present dogs are popular pets. 20300 years ago, humans’ first friends were dogs. When humans were going to hunt big animals, they would take dogs together. In the face, the wolf is the ancestor of the dog, so the dogs run, hit, and bite. Dogs and wolves are the same. 6000 years ago, Dogs have become family members. If people were going to work or activity, people take the dogs with them every day. After this “the dogs were deified in many leading civilisations”. In 2022, “Dogs remain the most popular pet, owned by 69 million households in 2022”(Rakaoczy, 2022, para. 4). Dogs are popular in past to now. Why from ancient times to modern times why people all like to pet dogs because dogs can help in people’s lives by improving security, adding social opportunites, and accompanying everybody.

First, Pets dogs can help people improve security. “A dog is many things. He’s my canine companion, raider of the trash, mail watchdog, irrepressible sniffer”(Black, alate, 2021, para. 1) When adults went to work, Children were alone at home. This time we need a dog to protect children. Some people may say that cats or other pets cannot protect their owners because dogs are like wolves, they will protect their people. We usually listen to dog help humans or owner stories because the dog will willingly give their lives.

Next, raising a dog can improve the owner’s social opportunites. “Walking with a canine companion can make us more approachable and give people a conversation starter” (Arford, 2020). We can imagine when a person goes to the park and takes a cute dog, this person will spotlight the park. “Researchers have found that about 40 percent of dog owners had an easier time making friends. Dogs are the perfect way to get to know strangers and form new friendships.” (Kennel, 2020). When we are not topic talking with people, we can use topics about the dog of the beginning. For example, how are pets’ dogs easier, what is your dog eating, etc? Thus, If you have a dog you will meet more new friends. You will improve your social skills.

Finally, A dog can stay with its owner or someone it trusts for its lifetime. The first reason, dogs can understand human emotions although they can’t speak. I believe that the dog can actually understand the mood of the master, and the dog also knows when the master needs to accompany because the dog and people like a long time with the family will know the personality and mood. However, In the article” I hate dogs and I’m not a horrible person” (GALLARDO, 2018). The author believes that dogs are just pets. Dogs have no way of keeping anyone company. Then we need to spend a lot of time and money on dogs. And dogs need human help for their poor hygiene. So, it is dogs that need humans and not humans that need dogs. Nevertheless, I don’t think the ” I hate dogs and I’m not a horrible person” (GALLARDO, 2018) author’s point of view is correct. Dogs have “affective empathy”. Dogs can understand human emotions through sound frequency, expression, and body. Just like a mother hearing a baby’s cry is hungry or scary. Dogs in ancient times are group organisms. They must work as a team to survive, so they need to understand the body movements of their peers rather than talking. Until modern dogs can understand their masters or others is because dogs in ancient times always practiced until now. “A dog has an amazing sense of smell, keen sight and hearing. In addition, dogs are pack animals and can read your body language.” (Ridgeback, 2020). To sum up, dogs can accompany humans. If we need to put the dog on professional work such as rescue, care for the elderly, or police dogs, etc. We just need professional training and selection of the right kind of dog. They can become professional dogs because they can understand human beings.

To sum up, in modern Society everybody needs a pet dog because it can add safely, social opportunites, and accompany everybody. Dogs like to be family members. We can not not like dogs. We can’t hurt them either. I believe every family pets a dog in the future. Moreover, If we go to every place such as hospitals, school schools, or the government, we will see many volunteer dogs sitting there and it will protect everyone.
